infoThe calculation keeps the current refill constant and does not assume that every avoided no-show will generate revenue.

Notice: No-show is an operational metric. Revenue and margin are scenarios based on the target, refill, ticket, and margin provided; they do not constitute a guarantee.

Measure first; project later

The rate uses only valid appointments. Idle capacity subtracts already refilled time slots, and the financial value considers only the difference between the current rate and the target.

1

Clean the schedule

Remove cancellations made with enough advance notice to reuse the time slot.

2

Measure no-shows and refill

Separate gross no-show from the portion filled by walk-ins or waitlist.

3

Test a target

Apply ticket and margin only to the additional attendances in the scenario.

Questions about no-show

What is the rate formula?expand_more
No-shows ÷ valid appointments × 100. Early cancellations should be excluded from the base.
Is no-show a recognized metric?expand_more
Yes. It also appears as "Did Not Attend" (DNA). The NHS England guide, for example, defines DNA as the situation where the patient does not attend and does not notify in advance.
Does a confirmation count as attendance?expand_more
No. Confirmation is an intermediate indicator. No-show is only known after the scheduled time.
How to compare units or professionals?expand_more
Use the same period and cancellation rules. In addition to the overall rate, track channel, service, lead time, time slot, and recurrence.
